- Derrykearn is a towns land situated two miles from Abbeyleix and is in St Fintans' parish Raheen. Derrykearn which means the "oak Wood of the Kern" took its name from a small army of foot soldiers who used to inhabit an oak wood situated there in the 16th century. There is bog in this towns land also a Chapel and graveyard called boile a brethern. the Chapel which was knocked down by Cromwell, is now gone to ruin. It is about quarter of a mile from the river Nore. It is a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
