1. Corcoran and the Fairies

   Long ago, a man and his only son lived in a little hut on a "Pass" near the remote village of Crosspatrick, about four miles from Rathdowney. The son was a backward boy ,+ lived mostly for the fields, his chief companions were the wild birds and flowers. On a slope near the little hut was a grassy mound, where the fairies used to gather for their sport and games. One evening "Tommy" (which the boy's name) was strolling past this mound and the fairies were hurling there. The invited him to join in their sport, so he got his hurl, and scored eight goals. He gave such a fine display that they asked him to stay with them, and train their team as they were to meet the Fairy Munster later on. Tommy stayed with them and when the day of the "Big Match" came, they had an easy victory over the Munsters. The match was held in the "Golden Vale", but of course the fairies had only to put on their
