- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There are still to be found many huge iron pots or boilers called cheese pots, these were all made in the iron foundry in the banks of the Nore in Mr Sylvester Phelan's land in Crannagh. There was a large foundry here in the 17th - 18th Centurys. Oak woods were very plentiful in these districts and it was used for fuel for the furnaces which flourished while the fuel lasted but them had to close down. Cannon- balls were made in this foundry and shipped down the Nore in flat bottom boats to Waterford. There was also a glass factory here also and in a mound nearly there are loads of clinkers - these are supposed to be skimings off the glass. A family names St.John's one of them still survives - was the chief pattern makers of these founderies.
