When driving them out and we say "bale up" when calling them home,The cow house is white washed and kept clean having a shore to drain away sewerage.It is also called the byre.The cows are foddered each day with clean straw.They are tied in two ways; with chains around the neck or with a bale that is that is two stakes having a batch on top to put the cows head between.
