  1. The old people whom I met in the parish seen to know very little about the Famine.In fact they say that it hardly affected this place at all. One old woman from this place,who is ninety two years of age. cannot tell very much about the famine, The people did not depend entirely on potatoes. The district around here was three or four times as thickly populated than it is now.There are ruins of many houses which were deserted, but not during the famine. A great amount of the potatoes failed in the ground,Those that escaped in the ground failed afterwards in the pits.Potatoes were sown in ridges then.There is a hill near Reary School which was cut down and levelled during the famine years. This was called the Public Works.There was a house in Rosenallis called the "Stirabout House." The yellow meal was sent to this house,The meal was cooked there, When the people went there
