- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The "Derry " is a fertile spot consisting of about fifteen acres of very rich land divided into four small fields . This fertile little farm is situated in the centre of the vast track of bog north-east of Athy , and is approached by a narrow road.
About thirty -five years ago a comfortable mud wall house stood near the south western edge of this farm. A man named Whelan who was always calle the "Derry man" lived in the house with his wife and family.
He left it when his wife died , and the place was taken over by the land-lordW.H.F.Verschoyle , who had about fourteen acres of the little farm planted with larch trees.
The Derry probably got its name from the Irish work "Deireadh " i.e. end as it is the end of each part of bog.
this bog , which contains several hundred acres is divided into several parts and each part ends in a narrow point at the" Derry"
there is a fine sand pit on the little farm and near the sand -pit is a carved hold water(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
