  1. Beside the town of Kildare there is a large pond or lough named Loughminane the formation of which is said to have taken place in the following manner.
    Eighteen Bishops came to visit St. Brigid at Loch Lemnachta, to the north of Kildare. St. Brigid asked her cook, Blathnait, if she had food for the Bishops and Blathnait said she had none. St. Brigid was ashamed and wondered what she would do, when an angel appeared to her and told her to milk the cows a second time. Brigid milked them, and they filled the tubs and would have filled all the vessels of Leinster. The milk flowed over the vessels and formed a big lough which to-day is known as
