May is said to be an unlucky month and few marriages take place.
Now a days very few made matches take place, whilst years ago, all matches were made either by the parents or the parties in a local match market. Money is given in a dowry, but sometimes cattle + lambs are given.
Long ago the poor people had to walk to the chapel, and the higher class went on horse back. A wedding feast was held at the brides house. The local boys dressed up in fancy attire, blackened their faces, + went uninvited to the wedding. The Captain of those Straw boys this Bride danced with the newly wed Groom + Bride. The Captains followers danced with the other guests, ladies + gents.
After a months time there was another feast given at the Brides house. This was called the "Hauling Home."
