- An old Easter Custom:- In some country districts the women would lift the men, by holding the legs of their chairs and lifting them up as high as they could. The men were then expected to give each woman a gift.
Football custom:- At Easter, about 150 years ago, football matches took place. The teams usually consisted of hundreds of men on each side. The match was not completed till dusk had fallen.
The first egg:- It is thought that the Chinese were the first to use eggs for religious festivals. It was at the time 700 B.C.
In the beginning the Chinese said that the earth was without form and darkness. Then it took the form of a huge egg, from which the first human being sprung up. From one portion of the shell he made the Heavens and from the other he made the earth.
The New Zealanders think that the earth was in darkness until one of their chiefs threw an egg into space. That egg became the sun, - according to the inhabitants of New Zealand.
