I couldn’t but ask it,
For in her hand she carried a broom.

“Old woman, old woman, old woman” quoth I,
“Oh whither, oh! Whither, oh! Whither, so high?
To brush the cobwebs off the sky
And I’ll be with you by and by.

A Poem 7 – 10 - ‘38

The following is a poem which I heard from my companions.
What’s the news, what’s the news?
De Valera sold his shoes,
To buy ammunition for his men.
He was walking up the steps,
When he fell and broke his specs.
And the cowardly little beggar ran away.
He was eating currant bun when he heard an English gun.
