  1. If the cat sits with her back to the fire it is a sign of reign; and if a rainbow appears in the sky it is the sign of showery weather. There is an old proverb which goes thus,-
    "A rainbow in the morning
    Is the shepherd's warning.
    A rainbow at night,
    Is the shepherd's delight."

    "A rainbow in the morning
    Is the shepherd's warning,
    A rainbow at eventide,
    Is the shepherd satisfied."
When the dog starts to eat grass, it is a sign that rain is near.
When the walls and doors (inside) become moist much rain may be expected.
The smoke going up straight out of a chimney portends good weather, but when a blow-down occurs or the smoke is blown downwards then rain may be expected.
