- In olden times the people used to live on oaten bread and on new milk.
This is how the oaten bread was made. First a sive was got and the oaten meal sifted through it. Then the bread board was got and the meal, put on it salt then added next new milk was got and the meal wetted. Then it was rolled very thinly and placed on the griddle. It was then baked on red coals or turf.
When the supper came the bread was used and the butter put on as thick as the cut of bread. New milk was drank with the bread.
They used bear bread also. It was made out of bear meal.- Faisnéiseoir
