  1. The moat is in John Nolan's land between the school in Dunmore and Kilkenny.
The moat is a very noted one and tradition has it that a druid is buried there.
It is round and about 60 feet high and has never been interfered with down the ages.
There is here in Dunmore, a Chain of those moats. All are in line, Nolan's Moat in line with one in Lalor's Dairy Farm similar in appearance to the former and situated in Upper Dunmore due North from Nolan's Moat. Hennessy's Rath in Radestown, an adjoining townsland much above sea-level also connected in line with the other two, but due East from them.
There is another moat due west at the Rock on Road between Kilkenny and Freshford still in line in chain, and further in we have Micil's Church (runs around a moat) in Tullroan the far famed hurling Parish about 7 miles North of Kilkenny, in hilly country It is believed that these moats were used as beacons by lighting fires in them to signal from one to the other.
This was tested during Black & Tan war here and found successful by the local volunteers.
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
