  1. Some years ago travelling people were very plentiful. They were the remains of the Famine. The most of those people came from Skibereen in Co. Cork. Those poor people were reduced to object poverty so much so that they had to take to the road the whole family and depend on the people in the better off countries for food of anysort even cold potatoes were welcome. Those poor people carried a bag or two in which they carried potatoes, meal or flour, which the farmers gave them.
