  1. During the penal days the Irish people were greatly persecuted.
    They were not allowed to go to Mass they used to go to they the mountain where the priest was hidden saying Mass. The people kept a watch fearing the enemy would come and murder him. In some parts of Ireland there are Mass paths where the People came to Mass through the fields.
