It was the year of '98 the time of blood and woe (And)
And many a Saxon fell beneath the rebels vengeful blow.
Britans troops before them flew like chaff before the gale.
As they heard the dreadful war cry from the sons of Inisfail
Four of Wexfords bravest boys when ended was the fray.
Sought shelter in a barn and hid beneath the hay.
Five of the British troopers knocked at John Murphy's gate.
They burst the wicket open, nor answer, would they wait.
Said the leader of the Wexford men as he peeped from out the door.
Five troopers in the yard without, within there is only four
Through many a fray we fought these boys with noumbers from one to two.
Another blow for Ireland and the door was open through.
Five horses without riders were prancing through the yard
