- St Ciaran was the first Saint of Ireland, founder and patron of the diocise of Ossory.When St Ciaran resigned the government of his Church in the year 462 he had attained the 87 years, and after 3 years of his retirement he departed this life in A.D. 465.Some very fine memorials are to be found in the City of Kilkenny honouring St Ciaran they are:-
