After Cromwell had come into Kilkenny he sat on the tower to have a look at the city. Some of the Irish people stole the guns and came out and called out "Cromwell you brute surrender." Cromwell said "I will never surrender." The Irish aimed at him but he got away.
Another day he told his soldiers to knock the Cathedral crosses off but when they tipped the crosses they fell dead. The blood stains remain to prove it.
