    Sheestown is situated a distance of three miles from Kilkenny. The feast of St. Fiacre is held on Sunday nearest to the 30th of August. On the bank of the Nore there is a holy shrine and well. About a hundred yards away from the well there was a monastry where a number of monks once lived. The time Cromwell was in Ireland the monks were afraid he would destroy their monastry.
    Cromwell was on his to Waterford one morning and as he was coming near Sheestown the monks began to ring their joy-bell because they thought he was gone to Waterford. Cromwell
