- A Severe Storm
During the year of 1839 there was a terrific storm all over Ireland. Many animals were perished to death and old houses and stables were blown to pieces. People could not stir out for days and they were nearly starved to death. As we were all sitting round the cosy hart-fire one night my Granny told the following story.
There onced lived in the "Bog of Allen" an aged woman and her only brother Tom. He used to work with his other mates cutting turf every day. One evening a terrific storm arose which frightened the turf-cutters very much.
