- The night Johnny Hickey was dead my father (R.I.P) and Richard Phelan went to the wake. They remained there for a few hours. After a while they proceeded home. My father was walking in the path and Mr. Phelan said
"Keep out of the path Tom," it is not good to be walking in the night-time."
They walked on at their ease and immediately they heard a terrible rumbling inside the ditch. By and by a large horse jumped out on the road before them with fire coming out of his eyes. They were both frightened and on turning back the figure disappeared. They proceeded on further and Mr. Phelan said"
"if we get by the cross we are safe. On this the horse jumped out again with a lady rider. She was of a tall white figure with fire out of her head. They knelt down and prayed.
