Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There are two forges in Mullinavat at present. They are owned by Richard Aylward Red Acres, Mullinavat and Roger Carroll, Mullinavat. All Richard Aylward's ancestors for generations have been blacksmiths. For that reason they are called "Gabhas". His forge is situated on the roadside near the stream of Red Acres. It is a big house with a slated roof. There were two blacksmiths working there once and the two sets of tools are still there. Roger Carroll's forge is situated in the middle of the street of Mullinavat. He has only been living in the street for about thirty years. His forge is a shed with a felt roof. The local forges long ago were owned by Thomas Morrissey and Patrick Morrissey. Some of the implements the blacksmiths use are a sledge, bellows, hammer, cutters, pincers, a vice, rasp and dogs. The bellows is made of two flat boards with a clapper in the middle of one of them. It is this which draws in the wind. It is fastened to a wall close to the fire so that the pipe
