- In olden times oaten bread was used in this district. The oaten meal was steeped in a bowl for three days. They dry oaten meal was mixed with that and when it was kneaded a pinch of flour was shaken over it and it was baked on a griddle. Black pea meal bread was also used. The home grown peas were ground and mixed with mashed potatoes.
