Long ago, when my father was a chap, there was a travelling man known as Jack the Walker who used to walk from Waterford to Coolroe (a distance of fourteen miles) and back again. He was never known to go into any house on the way but Hanrahan's of Coolroe
- Peter Egan of Mullinarigle who is about 18 years old is one of the best runners in the parish of Tullogher. He wins nearly every race he runs. He won watches, clocks, silver cups, medals and other lovely things.
Paddy Walsh who works at Pat Ryan's of Ballyconnaught and who is about 40 years of age, is still better than Peter Egan. He raced one Sunday coming home from Mass, from Mullinarigle to Ballyconnaught cross - almost a mile agains the fastest horse on the road, that belongs to Ned Walsh of Glenpipe. Paddy beat the horse. He is nicknamed Paddy "Melons".
