  1. A very big flood rose in the river Nore in the year 1487. Green's Bridge was destroyed by this flood. This Bridge was built by Bishop Cantwell. John's Bridge was swept away also. On the 2nd of October 1763 the two bridges were swept away and property valued eleven thousand pounds was destroyed. The river rose in the night, destroyed also the bridges of Castlecomer. Bennett's Bridge, and Thomastown and split two of the arches in Inistioge. It carried away many men in its tide. The river fifteen feet in some places. On Sunday 2nd October about one hundred people were standing on the bridge watching the river. They saw a cabin flowing down the river. When the cabin was going out under the bridge it opened and a cat and a dog were seen swimming in the river. The people ran to see the cabin. They were standing on the bridge. The bridge fell and fourteen of the people were buried under the stones of the bridge. Then a cow was seen floating down the river but a wave swept over he and there was no other sign of her.
