- There are the remains of a great house called Mancell's Court near the village of Crowbally, about half-a-mile to the South-East of Castlegannon school. A Family named Mancell lived there more than one hundred years ago, but very little is known about them now. It was in a very beautiful situation, and the Walsh-mountain Poet - Edmond Anderson wrote the following poem in praise of the Scenery.Mancell's CourtI
You skilful muses assist my genius to chant the praises of this fertile land,
That's neatly managed, well situated and fixed by nature's instructive hand;
Poetic pleasures do now inspire me for to describe it with solemn truth,
Heretofore in ancient ages it was called the seat of sweet Mancell's Court.II
Each summer season it's decked most neatly
and the fields arrayed in their suits of green,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
