    Over a hundred years ago there lived in the ruins of the castle of Castlebanny which then comprised two gables with an archway underneath, an old shoemaker who was very small. He was generally known as Philip na Moul. He was never seen to work in the day but no matter how many boots he was given to do in the day they were always finished overnight. He was supposed to have been assisted by the fairies.
    In these days it was usual for the people to attend a midnight mass on the last day of each year. One of the local inhabitants was going home from midnight mass on one of these nights; the moon was full
