  1. The ruins of this castles consist of a tall gable standing in one of Fitzgeralds field in the townland of Castlebanny in the parish of Ballyhale, barony of Knocktopher County Kilkenny.
    Stories say that a lady named Lady Fanning Butler lived here and left a large sum of money in trust for the poor people of the district. This money is distributed each year in June & December and all the cottagers in the townland share in it. The last distribution was on Christmas Eve and each person's share was little over 27/. The papers are signed by the Protestant minister & the P.P. and as there are no members of his creed in the district, the rector often leaves the distributiion in the P.P.'s care. The money was withheld from the people
