- All the farmers long ago made their own candles for the use of the house.
First they killed a fat goat & made tallow out of the fat. Then they made a piece of cotton thread fast to the end of the mould & then poured the tallow into the moulds. It was then left to set and the tallow hardened about the wick. When hard the candles were taken out of the mould, then more candles were made until all the tallow was used up, and a good store of candles made. I saw one of the moulds for making the candles at John Walsh's Kilcredy last year. Six candles could be made in the mould at one time.- Bailitheoir
