  1. The water hen builds in the rushes beside the river. She lays about ten white eggs. It is said that the water-hen could stay under the water for twenty four days.
    The wood pigeon builds her nest in a big tree. The nest is built of little sticks. She lays two white eggs. When the young ones come out they are like young duck.
    The corn-crake builds on the ground in a meadow. She lays about six eggs. In August the corn-crake goes away, and comes back in April.
    The curlew builds her nest in a bog on the ground. When she whistles it is a sign of rain.
    At the Crucifixion of Our Saviour a robin flew to the head of the cross, and began picking the thorn's with which Our Saviour was crowned. While she was picking them a drop of blood fell from Our Lord, and went on the robin's breast From that day to this every robin has a red breast. Some people think it a crime to kill a robin.
