  1. A very long time ago there was a hedge school in Mountcreagen. It was at the very highest point of The Rower parish. The schoolmaster who was a stranger was named Brien. About forty pupils attended that school. There was another old school in The Rower Village before the first National School was built. A lot of children attended it. My grandfather, and my granduncle went to that school. The house is now the property of Miss Murphy. In Coolraney there was an old school. Different masters taught there. It was in Mr. Elligot's field. Mrs. Brennan's house, in The Rower Village was a Protestant school formerly.
