  1. On the North East side of Shanbogh flows a small stream The Old Coach Road on entering Shanbogh crosses a bridge over this stream.
    The bridge got the name of Butterbridge because during the summer months the farmers used bring their butter there to cool in the stream.
    The butter was put in "keelers" or oaken tubs and left in the stream to harden.
    Up to 50 years ago the butter was taken to Waterford on horseback in firkins - 4d a pound being a good price. Some of it was disposed of in the New Ross butter market in Charles St.
    Some farmers kept all their butter till the end of the year and then sold it.
    The buyers in testing the butter always used augers. This
