    Skimming the well was a May morning custom and I have got the following account from Mrs Greene.
    Butter making was carried out extensively in the district about a hundred years ago and less in her grandparents' and parents' time. Of course the summer months was the butter period and the people took the butter by the road to Waterford where there was a very special butter market. In this district of small famers each neighbour had a very shrewd idea of the number of firkins of butter his neighbour could manage to bring to Waterford.
