- About half an acre of potatoes is planted every year. The ground where they are planted is first ploughed then it is manured and made into drills. The potatoes are then picked evinly. All the big ones are cut in halves and left in a heap to dry. They are then put in bags and brought to the field and five or six plant them. During the summer months they are sprayed once or twice. When October comes they are dug out by a digger and picked. They are left for a few weeks in a pit in the field they are then carted home and stored up in a house They are then graded. the big ones are kept for seed for the next year and the little ones are biled for pigs. The principal variets planted in this district are the Champions, Landworthies, British Queens, Irish Queens and Kerr-Pinks.
