  1. This particular forge is situated in a townland called Smart's Castle. A Castle was here at one time owned by a person named Smart, a Crowellian. This forge has beloged to a family named Tyler for far back as the oldest person can remember & it still belongs to a member descended from the Tyler's They made gates & nearly all farm implements here in the olden times before machinery turned these articles out. One of them was supposed to be able to make any instrument ever made out of iron or steel. He was noted for his strength and its said that he could throw the 56 lb weight without follow 26 feet without any training whatsoever.

  2. Before motors & bicycles were invented, local people used walk up to ten miles into Waterford to their work in the morning & the same back in the evening. They had to be in Waterford at 6 oclock sharp & they worked till six in the evening when they had the same walk home
