- To make a fishing rod get a long stick One end of it must be fairly thick and the stick must taper almost to a point. Put a long twine from the thick end of the rod and draw it up towards the thin end and leave a bit of twine hanging at the thin end about 4 yards long. Tie a hook on the end of the twine, and then tie a piece of lead about a foot up from the hook, then put a worm on the hook. Cover the hook with the worm, and then set it out in the river.
