- In this locality every farmer rears cattle - dairy cows and sometimes dry stock - horses, a donkey for taking milk to the creamery and pigs. The poor people usually keep a goat or two to supply them with milk for the household. Sheep, though plentiful further up the county, are never reared here but the butcher in Mullinavat always keeps a few which he buys at the fairs. Sometimes the cows have names to distinguish one from the other, our "Croppy" is a black animal and famous for being a very good milker. She has a very short tail and that's why she is titled "Croppy". "Blacknose" is a nice looking red cow with a black nose. Other names on cows are "The thief", "The Carrick Cow", "Belted", "White Legs". When driving home the cows we say "How, How"; but usually a good shep dog brings them home and there's(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
