- Some years before 1907 the people of the district of Mullinavat were Irish speaking, and nó word of English was used in the Church there for any purpose. The notices, prayers and sermons were all written in Irish. There was a scarcity of priests and ón alternate Sundays when a priest was not available for Mass, a layman was authorised to conduct a service and réad for the Congregation one of Bishop Gallagher's Sermons which was written in Irish.Edmund Comerford,
