1. The Road to Kilmacow

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There's a little winding road that leads to Kilmacow.
   'Tis bordered by a Mass tree upon its grassy brow;
   And people tell of by-gone times upon this sacred sod,
   When many an Irish peasant came and knelt and prayed to God.
   II
   Old penal days, old cruel ways hath tried our people then,
   And faithful were the ones that came to fold within the pen;
   St Patrick looks upon the scene, they look to Heaven on high.
   He guards them from the soldiers, till brighter days come by.
   III
   A noble priest is vested for holy Mass to say,
   His gallant flock around him who came to kneel and pray;
   The dome of Heaven above them, the Mass tree to the fore,
   On the sacred sod of Ireland to the God that they adore.
