1. The Crowing Cock in Waterford Jail

   This is a story of a young boy named FitzPatrick who was arrested after the famous battle of Carrick-Shock. Like all young chaps of the mountains he was full of tricks. One of his trick's was to crow like a cock. This he was able to perform to perfection. When he was arrested he was sent to Waterford Jail. He was only two days there when one night at about twelve o'clock the jail warders were startled out of their senses by the loud crowing of a cock which went echoing through the cells and corridors. When the warders got over the fright they went to find out where was the cock crowing. On opening the door of young FitzPatrick's cell they found the young man on his knees trembling all over with fright. He begged with the most piteous cries to be taken out of that cell or some one to remain with him saying they cell was haunted by a crowing cock. The jail warders put it off with a jeer, but still the cock crew every night in the cell and no matter what cell FitzPatrick was removed to the cock went
