  1. There is a famous herb doctor in Graigavine near Fidown, named Mr Bowers. Large crowds go to him every year and his cures are very effective for practically all ailments but nobody knows the secret of them.
    Here are some of the cures for ordinary people.
    To lessen the sting of a nettle, a dock leaf is rubbed to the afflicted part.
    For a toothache tobacco inserted in the bad tooth relieves the pain.
    The following is a cure for stomach trouble. Dandelion is boiled down to a wine and the addition of a little ginger greatly improves the flavour. It should be left to settle for a few weeks before bottling. A drink of this mixture is very good for stomach trouble.
    The following is a very good cure for corns. Steep an ivy leaf in vinegar for a few days, and then apply the leaf to the corn until it softens.
    For rheumatism the following cure is used. When the nettles are fresh in May is
