    "put up" for the night, in some kind person's house. These men stayed two or three days at a time in the same house, if their generosity "held out" that length. There was a certain room in the house converted into a study, and to this the neighbour's children gathered, to learn.
    Usually it was a priest or monk who travelled through the country, and they were known by the title of "Poor Scholars". The best known and most respected of the "Poor Scholars" was a man, by the name of Roger MacManamy, and on visiting this district, he resided in the house of a Frank McDonagh.
    This man frequently visited the districts, and taught the history of our isle to his pupils,
