During the Famine people lived on yellow meal and turnips.At ordinary times they had stirabout in the morning. Potatoes and butter-milk for dinner with sometimes a red-herring. The stirabout was cut in slices sometimes and fried in a pan.They used to make hard oaten bread. When going to America they brought six or more of these cakes with them to eat on the way.
