  1. One day a man was cutting sticks in a small wood. This wood was inhabited by fairies who objected to having the stick cut. He cut all the sticks he wanted and after his dinner he brought a cart back with him to put the sticks into. When he stooped to pick up the sticks he could not straighten himself up again with the sticks in his hand, because the fairies did not like him taking the sticks. This is a true story so I was told. It happened only recently. The man's back is supposed to be bent still. This happened in Blackwood, Co. Kildare.
