“Newbridge is not a very ancient town. It was called O'Connell Mór formerly.”
Newbridge is not a very ancient town. It was called O'Connell Mór formerly. After the insurrection of 1798 the British soldiers marched to O'Connell Mór. They camped near the River Liffey. They said that it would be an ideal place for a barracks near the River. Money was given and a great barracks was built. Little by little the soldiers made their abode near the barracks. Gradually it became bigger until it (became) reached its present size.
