- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)to do all sewing by hand. They still use needle and thimble for basting clothes. Shirts are not made at home nowadays as they are so cheap to buy ready made. Flax is not grown around about here so then cloth for shirts is not made locally.Socks are rarely knitted now, except by the older women who do it for a pastime. Ladies stockings are not knitted at all because they do not wear wollen stockings but fine silk ones which are made cheap. The wool is not woven in the homes around here.Veronica Eiffe
