- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)in olden times.The family of Lawless have lived in Lyons for over 200 years. Their male title of Cloncurry is now extinct.In the beginning of the 19th century the number of Catholics in the neighbourhood totalled 158. Lord Cloncurry erected a Chapel for them which was complete in 1810. (This is now the R.C. Church in Ardclough.)A large bronze Crucifix and Holy Water Font were presented by the Lord to the Chapel. The Crucifix was a personal gift from Pope Pius VII to him when he visited Rome in 1805.The Lord Cloncurry was an intimate friend of Daniel O'Connell.
