- The animals on the farm are horses, donkeys, goats, cows, calves, ponies, ducks, geese, hens, chickens and turkeys.
1. Horses are tied in, in the winter nights, with a rope round their necks. there is very little bedding put under them. They are given hay and oats.
2. Donkeys are also put in, in the winter nights, they are not tied at all.
3. Goats are not put in, in the winter nights, but they are staked in the field.
4. Cows are put in, in the winter nights they are tied with chains made of iron and stapled too the manger. The cows get hay in the night. When finished milking, it is a custom when finished all together to make the sign of teh cross on the cow with the froth of the milk. Cows may be distinguished by calling them the Red Cow or Biddie the Cow. It is a custom when cows calve to through salt on the calve for good luck.
