   Copy of a Poem written by Hugh Farrell, Master of Edenderry Workhouse. It is taken from a book of poems written by him. I (D.P. Horan, Principal ) have a copy of this book and transcribe the poem from it. The book has a photograph of the author on its front page. The photograph is autographed and dated thus -
   Hugh Farrell 22nd April, 1874.
   I am a native of Edenderry, and remember Mr. Farrell being Master of the Workhouse in my childhood days.

   The old hill of Carberry
   Where many a time we met,
   When summer birds sang merrily
   I never will forget.
   'Twas there we wandered side by side
   'Twas there our lives began,
   And there I said I'd be the bride
   of Charley oge McCann

   'Twas in the merry month of May
   we met upon the green
   The blithest at the fair that day
   My Charley oge was seen:
   The lightest in the dance was he,
   where mirth and music ran,
   And many a maiden envied me
   with Charley oge McCann
