- Long ago there were people here and there through the country, who were supposed to spend some of their time "in the fairies."
There was a woman living in Coomatloukane and her name was Máire Ní t-Seághain. All the neighbours firmly believed that she used to go with the "good people" or the daoine maithe.
One night she went from home with the fairies, and in the morning she was found by one of the servants at Darryname Abbey. The servant asked her how she came there as the door was locked. She said she was with the Daoine maithe the night before and that they left her there.
Another night she was at a wedding and when midnight came she said she would have to be going because the Daoine maithe were waiting for her. Some of the people tried to keep her but she said it was no use and that it was better for them not to interfere with the "good people".
It is said that people that are born on certain days of the week or in certain phases of the moon can see the fairies. Long ago evil spirits or fairies were supposed to be seen in certain districts and used to attack and sometimes kill people, but it is said if people carried a hazel stick that the spirit would not come near them.
